Multipurpose Amphibious Assault Ship U.S.S. Wasp 'LHD-1' 1:350

With the U.S.S. WASP (LHD-1), the U.S. Navy set in 1989, the first ship of a new class of amphibious assault ships, in multi-purpose service. Seven ships of the WASP class were completed by 2009. These ships are the successors TARAWA class and can carry up to 40 aircraft (helicopters and VTOL), numerous tanks, or up to 1,894 troops of the Marine Corps. Furthermore, the floodable Dock several houses at the rear landing boats that bring the combat vehicles and troops ashore. The main function of these ships is to support landing operations of the Navy. But also for rescue operations or humanitarian missions they become available.
