When a major storm hits, it can create a neighborhood-by-neighborhood, or even a street-by-street mix of flood plains and dry land, making it impossible for ordinary rescue vehicles, whether boats or trucks, to reach survivors. That’s where the hovercraft shines. Able to skim over any surface – land, water, mud or ice – on a cushion of air, the hovercraft can bring rescue personnel where they are needed most, pluck people from rooftops or deliver supplies to other inaccessible areas.

The Ugears rescue hovercraft is a 1:24 scale wooden model of a streamlined all-terrain hovercraft with twin propeller. This wooden DIY model is powered by a spring motor, with a ratchet wrench on the craft’s undercarriage. A Start/Stop switch allows you to wind up the motor by giving ten clockwise turns, then turn it on as the propellers spin with double thrust and the boat executes graceful, pre-programmed left and right turns over a distance of 3 meters, mimicking the gentle swaying motion of a real h
