In 1931 on December 23rd in the very north of Germany, Eva Danker was born. Her youth was spent with her parents, three brothers and sisters in Niebull on the border with Denmark. Everything that was not for sale which she wanted she tried to make herself. Eva was already molding puppets for the puppet theatre and when she was 11 years old she made her first doll. She thought it was very beautiful and gave it to her teacher. In the early years she made dolls from moldable wood. Her joy in being creative never left. She became the assistant to a dentist. After her three children left the house she learnt to paint porcelain and was a teacher for 10 years in Rensdurg. She taught the painting of porcelain. At a school for special education she worked as a teacher for handcraft. Throughout the years she taught herself a lot. Things such as design, molding, making casts, painting, and the design of clothes and of course making the clothes. A lot of the information for this was gotten from doll magazines. This was also where she got her first inspiration. In one of the magazines she saw Heidi Ott dolls and she loved them so much, her passion for dolls was born then. For the past 20 years she has been busy with the making of dolls and has participated in countless exhibitions and competitions, amongst others the “Max-Oscar-Arnold art prize” was won by her on several occasions, in the city of Neustadt. She also got a bronze, silver and gold medal from the Eurodoll competition. The fact that dolls making is her passion will surprise nobody. If it wasn’t she would have never made it this far and have made such beautiful pieces of art. © Hesemans Breda 2013
