Apollo 11 LUNAR MODULE EAGLE
50th anniversary MOON LANDING 1969-2019

The Lunar Module or LM, also known by its initial name Lunar Excursion Module or LEM, was the lunar lander of the Apollo program. The LM was the component made to perform the actual lunar landing. It was built by Grumman Aerospace.
During the launch of the Saturn V rocket, the lunar lander, with the landing gear retracted, was stowed under the command/service module (CSM), in the section where the rocket greatly widens. Once the rocket was en route to the moon, the third stage was jettisoned and the lunar lander was released. With a maneuver, the lunar lander was placed on the front (on the tip) of the capsule. Through a connecting lock with two doors, the astronauts were able to transfer.

“Houston, this is Tranquility Base. The Eagle has landed.”.

With these words, the world heard that humanity had finally reached the moon.

The Apollo 11 “Eagle” lunar landing module landed on July 20, 1969 and became the first housing on the moon.

Neil Armstrong was the first person to set foot on the moon.
