Biography and History Helga Weich

sfeerfoto_Gaby SchlotzEvery doll maker, who works with live models, tries to make the doll look as real as possible. The charisma, the soul of the doll should be the same as the model. This is exactly what Helga Weich does with her dolls. For more than 30 years Helga Weich has been making dolls. The first materials she ever used were: Alabaster and polymer clay. Shortly after she moved on to making dolls from porcelain and wood. Her inspiration was the children in her neighborhood but especially her daughter. She improved the production process of wooden dolls, used old and new materials for the clothing and she does this all herself. This made sure that each of the dolls are left with their very own Helga Weich character. Now she shows her dolls, which are good quality, at the well-known “international Spielwarenmesse” in Nurnberg. She has been doing this since it existed. Her dolls are also presented further away, in places like America and Japan. During these presentations she always lights up, just like her dolls, full of life and enthusiasm! She gets even more excited when she sees that her doll can give a little extra to a child or family as the soul mate of a child. In 1985 Helga won the “Doll artisan Guild”prize at the doll expostition in New York. A lot of distinctions follow: Salzburg, Amsterdam etc. Helga Weich designs and makes the dolls lovingly together with her husband. And just like she says “every doll leaves us, or at least that’s how it feel, just like its taking a little piece of my hart with it”. She is rightly proud that from a piece of wood she creates a piece of art which you can love.
